At first glance, Toulouse is unrelentingly modern, a hi-tech city of the future today. All glass and steel rather than sandstone and sculptures, but this is all an illusion. Despite the outward appearances fostered by the influx of industries such as aircraft manufacturer Airbus, Toulouse is also an incredibly historic place with many attractions on offer to keep visitors busy in and around the city.
The city is of course dominated by Airbus, its gigantic factories where the latest A380 double-decker aeroplanes are built is the largest (and most expensive) building in Toulouse, and the high disposable income generated by the factories means the city is filled with upmarket boutiques. On every corner of Toulouse, there is evidence of just how lucky this city is, and how important the future is, however, if you take the time to explore, away from the sleek monumental Concorde, you will find a classy beautiful city with plenty of winding streets and ancient buildings to enthral you as you explore.
Great shopping, a number of first class museums (naturally including one about aviation), and several truly beautiful churches, combined with a location in the heart of some stunning landscapes, makes Toulouse the perfect place to relax - especially if you like aeroplanes.
