For ten days every May, Cannes becomes the centre of the film world, when film stars and movie makers from all over the world descend on this resort town on the French Riviera in order to take part in the famous annual Cannes Film Festival, and reward the best movies of the era with a number of highly prized rewards.
With a number of first class hotels stretching along a picture perfect Mediterranean coastline, and weather that remains excellent throughout most of the year, it comes as no surprise that Cannes is such a popular holiday destination, and has a great deal to offer any visitor who chooses to visit. There are many attractions to see in and around Cannes, and the shopping - particularly for top name designer clothes - is something that attracts many visitors.
Nearby attractions include the city of Nice nearby, and slightly further afield, the principality of Monaco, where you can visit the city of Monte Carlo in order to rub shoulders with the glitterati, and risk your arm on a game of roulette or two in the famous casino.
Aside from the period during the Cannes Film Festival in May, the best times to visit this resort near Nice on the Cote d'Azur is during the autumn, when the beautiful scenery of the Provence region inland from the coast is at its most gorgeous, and the new wines are released.
